CNA Certification

There are many people just like you who are considering entering the nursing profession. But if you are not completely certain if this is the career for you, or you don’t have the time or funds to complete the years of schooling that is required, you could consider becoming a certified nursing assistant as an interim step. There are different requirements for CNA certification for each state so it’s always a good idea to check directly with your state’s Department of Health.

But generally the requirements are similar – you will need to pass a training course first of all, then write the CNA certification exam and then also successfully pass a criminal reference check.

Basically the CNA certification is in place to ensure that CNAs have learned the basic skills in order to work with patients and provide the necessary care that they require. Your CNA training will include at least 75 hours of training as required by the federal government. That training will include a classroom as well as a hands-on component.

You can start off taking your CNA training and certification, work for awhile and then decide to continue your education further to become a licensed practical nurse or a registered nurse. There are many options once you have completed your training and gain some experience.

CNA training courses include studying the basics of nursing including anatomy and physiology, nutrition, body mechanics, infection control, patient care as well as client rights. You will also learn medical math, and CPR. You will also learn how to use some of the medical equipment and how to respond to emergencies.

You will be working under the supervisor of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. You may be able to find an employer who will let you work at the same time as you receive training. You will have to check into this at each potential employer but they might also pay for your schooling fees and support you taking the CNA certification exam.

Your salary will depend largely on what kind of experience you have and where you will be working. But you will have a lot of opportunity to expand your knowledge, continue your schooling and gain more experience. This will support you in a longer term way in working up the ladder to a higher pay scale.

If you are curious to find out more information, you can always speak to other people who have taking their CNA certification to see if this is something that you want to pursue. Check out different schools and make sure that the one that you choose is accredited so that you won’t have any problems in the future. Taking the CNA certification can be a great stepping stone to a very rewarding future.
