If you are going through the courses to become a CNA, chances are you are wondering how much money you are going to make after you become certified. Unfortunately, there is no cut and dried answer to that question. The size of a CNA salary can vary by each state and of course, the amount of experience you have as a certified nursing assistant. There is an option in some states that allow you to practice as an uncertified nursing assistant for a short time. As an average, a CNA will make a salary of $20,000 to $30,000 a year. This does not sound like a large salary, especially in comparison to other jobs. However, it is important to remember that this is far more than minimum wage, with certified nursing assistants making on average about $11 to $15 an hour. Another point to consider is that becoming a CNA can be an excellent starting point for those who wish to continue farther in the medical field. Of course, your salary options will obviously increase as your experience continues to grow. As a CNA, you have access to other specialized training as well that, once completed, will have an impact on your pay rate, too.
When you are looking for available CNA jobs in your area you will see that your salary will obviously vary depending on the setting. It is best to choose a setting that will not only provide you the income best suited for you, but also a job that meets what you are looking for and this is very important. For example, if you wish to work in a certain health care clinic you may have a lower income, but it may be work that you greatly enjoy. Another point to remember is that there are quite often benefits associated with CNA positions. These jobs are generally on a contract basis. There are also non contract positions available which usually offer a much higher hourly rate, but you will usually receive no benefits.
However, most people choose the career of a CNA not based on income but simply because helping people is what they love to do. They also enjoy being able to make a difference in those people’s lives. In those cases, many do not mind a modest income at all. Generally people who are working as a CNA because that is what they love doing also look into further training, which is often times provided by the company in exchange for continued employment with that employer. This is also an excellent choice to make as you will have to pay minimal if any fees for your additional training as well as learning more about the field that you are in that you already know you greatly enjoy doing. Making the choice to be a CNA is a wonderful one and can be quite a rewarding one, as well.
